A bit about our creatives:
Photographer: Lucy Hale
1. Whats the concept behind your project?
...
'Global Gaming' is a documentary film depicting entries sent from all over the world to signify how much the community within video games are really just a gigantic family. I'm trying to show within the movie that although we come from various backgrounds and different countries, the one thing that ignites our passion and collates us together is our adoration of video gaming.
2. Where do you find your inspiration from your images?
A huge influence on my style for this project is Mishka Henner. His work made me realise that you don't have to personally set up the shot and press the shutter in order to still create your own work and be a photographer/filmmaker.
3.Was being a photographer a dream you had since you are young? How did you got into photography?
I began by taking macro shots of nature in my back garden most days after school when I was abut 13. After studying it at GCSE and A Level, and receiving A* in both, I decided that gaining a degree in photography was a no-brainer.
4. As a student photographer how do you combat creative block?
Music and journeys. Some of my best and most creative ideas have come to me when I'm zoned out in my own world on the bus listening to my iPod.
5. Are there any photographers or artists close to your heart that inspires you?
A great photographer called Layla Sailor recently came to visit our university to talk about her journey into the industry. Even though she thought she was 'passed it' by the time her work got noticed and went viral, she was still considered an upcoming, emerging artist which is very inspirational to me. It shows that we don't have to have our images in Vogue in our early 20s - something fantastic may well happen when we're 40, so there's no rush!
6. Have you always wanted to photograph the same genre or has this changed from when you started the degree?
I think what I want to capture alters with my mood. I began the degree with a very clean advertising/product style, in second year I went through a bad patch with my liver disease which made me consider photography as a visual diary to express what I was going through, and this year I have suddenly broadened into moving image and film, despite not having the first idea about professional editing. I just go with the flow!
7. What are your plans for after you graduate?
I will be moving down to Hampshire at the end of August, so every day I am madly searching for filmmaking, photographic or video gaming jobs around the London area. Fingers crossed!
