1. Whats the concept behind your project?

In my new series ‘Displaced’, I really focused on the concept of the past connecting to present. I have a specific colour theme which runs throughout giving a surreal, and exaggerated impression as inspired by Steven Klein. The work has undertones of the current decline of the British seaside, exploring the notion of displacement, and experimenting with the idea of combing two alternative eras into one. The images purposefully emphasise the bold, wacky and sometimes overpowering ways of the British seaside. Infused with vibrant colours of vivid neon, pastel pink skies, and a combination of various locations, I've created a story from fiction and fashion.

2. Where do you find your inspiration from your images?

I'm quite an observant person, many of my ideas come from just looking around. I'm currently situated in Blackpool, which I feel had quite a big impact on my work this year. The colours, smells and lifestyle in the seaside town are so different, you have these eccentric characters wherever you seem to go. It’s so bright and vibrant in parts, but on the other hand you have these dreary, out of date areas which seem to clash.

3.Was being a photographer a dream you had since you are young? How did you get into photography?

I have a big love for animals, originally I wanted to be a vet, but I soon came to realise that wasn't going to happen when I couldn't handle a bit of blood! I think the first time I really got into photography was when I was in venice with my friends family. Her dad gave me his camera, and I remember strictly telling him I didn't care for taking photographs. He was persistant, so I started taking photographs of things I found interesting. I became obsessed with capturing strangers, and trying to convey emotion. I feel that a part of me is still interested in that side of photography, I love to meet and speak to new people, and some of the stories I've heard are incredible.

4. As a student photographer how do you combat creative block?

I usually just take some time out for myself, theres nothing worse than trying to force yourself to be creative.

5. Are there any photographers or artists close to your heart that inspires you?

Well one of the first photographers which really caught my eye back when I was in college was Tim walker, but I would say Steven Klien and Quentin Shih are two photographers who have really inspired me.

6. Have you always wanted to photograph the same genre or has this changed from when you started the degree?

I orginally started out wanting to persue a career in documentary photography, I still have a soft spot for it now, but I really enjoy what I'm doing, I still keep personal project for myself so we'll see what happens.

7. What are your plans for after you graduate?

I want to collaborate with some really talented artists, and start working on some projects I've been longing to do.
