We headed up into the Scottish highlands, braved the rain, wind, and snow all in an effort to follow Emily Gellard behind the scenes on her latest project. We got an insight into just how tough it can be to get that perfect shot. Its easy to forget the gruelling conditions photographers are faced with when we view it from the warm, comfort and accessibility of our own homes, so lets give you a bit of an idea! It was a total of eleven hours to reach our photographers first destination, and there was no time to stretch, it was right up into the mountains! Walking up a mountain can be a daunting prospect in itself, so to take the challenge while carrying three camera’s, one including a medium format camera AND a tripod can seem an optimistic view to take. Nonetheless Emily was on her way and soon shooting her way up the mountain.
Emily’s currently exploring the idea of despite how unaccessible we may think a place is, we can often find that in fact we’re usually finding remnants of human life wherever we may go. It’s the bittersweet reality of longing to explore the world we haven’t yet seen, despite the truth that there will probably always be someone who has been there before. May it be an empty crisp packet, or the odd cigarette butt, these small things remind us that the world isn’t as large and scary as we may once have perceived it.
Our first route of travel was The Storr, probably one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen, it has it all and we were lucky enough to get some snow! Where as it may of been a tricky walk due to weather conditions, it didn’t effect the will power or determination of our photographer! We made it right to the top, just as a thick blanket of fog came in, it really felt like we were in a scene from game of thrones! We’ll be posting some of the images up in the next coming posts!
